According to the Alaska Travel Industry Association, a record 3 million visitors flocked to Alaska for the tourism season spanning May 2024 to April 2025; 88% came for summer in Alaska, predominantly cruise ship passengers who sail during the cruise season from May to September.

With 500 miles of tracks and copious cruise packages, the Alaska Railroad is a popular option for sightseeing. However, its year-round operation is underutilized.

United to disable app and website for system upgrade


United Airlines will disable many of its app and website functions between 2:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning for an update of its reservation system.

"Weve removed all departures from the schedule during those early morning hours to create the right conditions to complete the upgrade as seamlessly as possible for our customers," the airline said in a statement. 
The system to be updated, called Shares, is a mainframe reservation system that United inherited from Continental at the time of their merger in 2012.

ATPCO names former Sabre exec Brett Burgess CEO


ATPCO has named former Sabre executive Brett Burgess as its new CEO, effective immediately, the company announced Monday. He is based in Denver.

Most recently, Burgess was general manager of commercial aviation for Jeppesen ForeFlight, a former Boeing company, where he led a global business line. Prior to that position, he was the companys chief product officer, according to ATPCO. He also spent more than five years with Sabre, with his last position there as SVP of product management, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Burgess succeeds Alex Zoghlin, who departed ATPCO in June 2025 and joined hospitality industry revenue management technology firm Duetto as CEO thereafter. ATPCO CFO Vince Palmiere had been interim CEO during the boards search for a new leader.

Kayak CEO and co-founder Steve Hafner is stepping down and handing the reins to CFO and COO Peer Bueller, announced parent company Booking Holdings on Tuesday.

After more than two decades leading the metasearch engine, Hafner will become Kayaks executive chairman and take on a new leadership role at Booking Holdings, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.
"Steve pioneered the metasearch category with the launch of Kayak and delivered industry-leading results for Kayak for many years, since our acquisition of the brand in 2013," said Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Fogel.
