American Airlines launches free WiFi


Members of American Airlines loyalty program will have access to free WiFi across the entire narrowbody fleet by the end of January.

American Airlines launches free WiFiAmerican said on Tuesday that it has begun rolling out the free service for narrowbody and dual-cabin regional planes, though it did not specify the number of planes that currently have the service. 
Americans Boeing 787 deliveries will also have free WiFi by the end of January, while the remainder of the carriers widebody fleet will be equipped with the offering by early spring. 
The airlines high-speed WiFi is provided by satellite companies Intelesat and Viasat. Free WiFi for AAdvantage members is being supported with sponsorship from AT&T.

Lufthansa plans to simplify bookings with Amadeus technology


Lufthansa Group will use Amadeus modern retailing platform, Nevio, as it works to replace the multiple order records that characterize legacy airline bookings with a single, unified record.

Lufthansa plans to simplify bookings with Amadeus technologyThe focus is on the introduction of an "Order ID," a new identification number that will eventually replace booking and ticket numbers and bring together all components of a trip, Lufthansa Group said. 
Under the legacy systems that dominate airline retailing, flyers are assigned a passenger name record (PNR) and an e-ticket. If they make ancillary purchases, they also are assigned electronic miscellaneous documents (EMDs).
By replacing those various records with a single Order ID, Lufthansa says it will make booking, adjusting and managing flights easier and more intuitive for customers.

Lufthansa Group to roll out free WiFi


Lufthansa Group airlines will begin rolling out free WiFi in the second half of this year. 

Lufthansa Group to roll out free WiFiThe WiFi, to be powered by Starlink, will be free to all flyers with status in Lufthansa Groups Miles & More frequent flyer program. It will also be free to any Miles & More members who registers for the groups digital Travel ID program, which stores a persons personal data, payment details and travel documents for all 10 Lufthansa Group brands in one place, accessible by a single log-in. 
The free service will be provided as Lufthansa retrofits its planes with the high-speed Starlink satellite service. The airline group expects its full fleet of approximately 850 planes to be Starlink-equipped by 2029.
The Lufthansa Group airlines are Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels, ITA, Air Dolomiti, Edelweiss, Discover and regional carriers Lufthansa CityLine and Lufthansa City Airlines.

Travel agencies exceeded $100 billion in air sales last year


In 2025, U.S. travel agency airline ticket sales crossed the $100 billion threshold for the first time.

Travel agencies exceeded $100 billion in air sales last yearAccording to ARC, agencies sold $100.4 billion in airline tickets last year, up 1% from 2024 amid dips in consumer confidence that affected airlines, especially in the first half of the year, and economy flying. 
The figures account for sales by leisure and corporate agencies, including online travel agencies (OTAs). Direct sales by airlines aren’t included. 
For the year, total passenger trips increased 3%, with U.S. domestic trips up 2% and international trips up 4%. Numbers were boosted by a strong December in which travel agencies sold $7.2 billion in airline tickets, a 7% increase.
